introduction

The Society for Cultural Interaction in East Asia(SCIEA) was established in October 2007 as an international academic society. The aim of the society is to grasp dynamically the various phenomena of cultural production, contact, collision, transformation and fusion in East Asia, and to elucidate the total state of cultural interaction from a multifaceted perspective by synthesising various methods of the humanities, and to promote communication and exchange among members.
The Society is.
i). Aiming at creative research activities with a global perspective in terms of research, the Society has set the subject of its research as ‘Cultural Interaction in East Asia’. It considers this to include both ‘East-West cultural interactions in East Asia’ and ‘cultural interactions between East Asian regions’. And we aim to analyse the reality of such cultural interactions from a ‘many-to-many’ perspective, i.e. multilateral and multiregional rather than a ‘one-to-one’ perspective, i.e. bilateral and bi-regional.
ii). In line with the above aims, the activities of the conference will focus on holding a research conference every year to exchange research results and to promote methodological discussions and resource sharing. Annual conferences will also be held in different countries and regions, with an orientation towards listening to local voices and arguments.
iii). In terms of organisation, we plan to minimise the burden on members and manage the conference centred on the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees, while at the same time organising a separate secretariat to take charge of the day-to-day operations of the conference and setting up an editorial committee to compile the conference journal.

We sincerely welcome the participation of anyone who agrees with these aims.
