The 12th International Academic Conference and Symposium of the Society for Cultural Interaction in East Asia will be held at Zhengzhou University, China, in May 2020.
The conference will be sponsored by the Research Center for the Civilization of Chinese Characters of Zhengzhou University (ZZU). With the theme “The Chinese Character as a Medium of Cultural Interaction: Its Dissemination and Influences”, the conference will investigate the dissemination of Chinese Characters and Chinese classic works and their influences on East Asia and even world civilization, thereby promoting the research of cultural interaction which using Chinese Characters and Chinese classic works as mediums.
Zhengzhou University (ZZU) is located in Henan Province, it is a national key university jointly established by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of Henan Province. It is also listed among the first batch of national “Double-A-Class” universities. The university’s Research Center for the Civilization of Chinese Characters is dedicated to doing research on the inheritance, dissemination and education of the civilization that was based on Chinese Characters. Today, it has achieved great results in various fields such as history and theories of Chinese Characters, ancient characters and traditional cultures, dissemination of extraterritorial Chinese classic works and Chinese characters, and research on dictionaries. In addition, the Center has established cooperative relations with many institutions of researching Chinese characters in various countries all over the world, and has taken the lead in establishing the International Alliance for Intercultural Research on Chinese Characters. We truly believe that Zhengzhou University’s advantage in the history of Chinese character civilization and its international academic vision will provide a strong guarantee for the success of the International Academic Conference of the Society in Cultural Interaction in East Asia in 2020.
The conference will be same with all previous meetings to explore various forms of cultural interaction in East Asia. We are sincerely looking forward to your participation in this conference and make new contributions to the field of East Asian cultural interaction studies.

Application Schedule and Announcement of Selections

The conference will be divided into four categories: keynote speeches, panel sessions, individual presentations, and papers presented by PhD candidates (*Only Graduates in Doctor’s program when applying).
We encourage each Society member to refer to the above titles for the composition of each panel. Panels will be allotted two hours and will be comprised of four to five presenters, one moderator, and one or two discussants. Presenters can also serve as moderators or discussants. Please submit your application and abstract (400 characters about the gist of speech and an abstract around 300 words for each submission) to the Organizing Committee by the deadline if you wish to participate.

The deadline for application submission is Friday, December 20, 2019. After the Organizing Committee reviews your application and abstract, we will send you a formal letter of invitation around the end of January, 2020.
 

General Expenses

There is no conference fees for the 2020 SCIEA conference, with the exception of specially invited presenters, all participants are responsible for their own roundtrip transportation and lodging expenses, we will provide a welcome banquet and working meals for both days at the conference.
